Minimum wage suspended for transit shipments

Germany: German ministry for social affairs – for the time being – suspend the application of the minimum wage for mere transit shipments through Germany.

In the dispute about the application of minimum wage to foreign truck drivers who cross Germany in transit shipments the German government gives in. The German ministry for social affairs announced to suspend – for the time being – the obligation to pay minimum wage to truck drivers who merely cross Germany in transit shipments. The government reacts to complaints from Germany’s neighbour countries, in particular from Poland and the Czech Republic.

The suspension does not apply to shipments which are loaded or unloaded in Germany. Such shipments are still affected from the law on minimum wage.

The decision of the government applies for the time being until the EU commission has reviewed the issue. The results can be expected between April and June 2015.
