We talked to Tomáš Běhounek, Co-Head of bnt’s Real Estate Practice Group, who told us more about the added value and the intended audience of the survey.

What was the driving idea behind the compilation of this brochure?

Tomáš Běhounek (TBE): Let me remind readers at the outset that this is not the first edition. In fact, our real estate practice group is now presenting readers with the 5th updated edition! The main driver, however, was the copious amount of changes to the law and new rules and concepts which has come into force over the past three years. It has again become quite difficult to read the situation and the context. In the light of this, we knew that an up-to-date, to-the-point summarization of the playing field in the real estate laws of 10 CEE countries would be uniquely useful to clients in this market. Last but not least, we were motivated by the very positive feedback we’ve received on previous editions.

Who is the target readership of the Real Estate Survey?

The publication offers an overview of the legal environment in the individual real estate markets; it is conceived such that, aside from quickly getting one’s bearings in the various jurisdictions, one also receives a solid base for investment decisions. Consequently, the survey primarily speaks to private and institutional investors, developers, construction companies, and other players in the real estate market who take a particular interests in the CEE region.

Who has been involved in the survey at bnt?

The publication is being compiled, edited, and published by our very best real estate lawyers across all ten offices of bnt, who are embedded in a network of mutual relations within the practice group. This network, and these relations, not only allow us to produce publications such as this one, but above all facilitate effective and competent advisory services and complex problem-solving across national borders and jurisdictions.

Thank you for this brief exchange! I am confident that the 2018/2019 Real Estate Survey will be a helpful source of basic information on real estate law, and as such be welcomed (not only) by our clients.
